Description
Also known as the sun stone, this basalt monument was sculpted by the Aztecs in 1479 and dedicated to the sun. It was never really a calendar. Weighing 24.5 tons and measuring nearly 12 feet in diameter, it was found in the Great Temple. Today it is the centerpiece of the Mexica (Aztec) Hall in the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
