The representation of jaguars in Mesoamerican cultures has a long history. All major civilizations prominently featured a jaguar god, and for many the feline was an important part of shamanism. The formidable size, reputation as a predator, and its evolved capacities to survive in the jungle made it an animal to be revered. The Olmec and the Maya witnessed the strength and power and incorporated the animal into their mythology.
Our small but fierce example sits crouched on a shiny black base that measures 3.0″x3.25″. There is a small depression in the back which defines it as a vase. A lovely objet d’art for your table , shelf or desk!
